Seahee Hwangbo wins the Gator Engineering Attribute Award

Congratulations to Seahee Hwangbo for winning the Gator Engineering Attribute Awards for the 2018-2019 academic year in the category of professional excellence. She was selected for exemplifying the attribute of professional excellence with her strong record of research performance. Considered the greatest distinction of any student award given by the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, the Gator Engineering Attribute Awards are intended to provide an ideal guide for all members of the Gator Engineering community.

Keisha Castillo-Torres Receives Diversity Impact Award

IMG would like to congratulate IMG member and Graduate student, Keisha Castillo-Torres, on receiving this year’s University of Florida Dr. J Michael Rollo Diversity Impact Award! Keisha is the sole UF graduate student recipient for this year’s award which recognizes inspiring students who demonstrate leadership by committing to actively create a more diverse and inclusive campus community. This is the third straight year a HWCOE Ph.D. student has been nominated and won the UF award.

IMG Seminar: Camilo Vélez and Cary Kuliasha

Event date:
Fri, 04/20/2018 - 11:45am to 12:45pm

This week, the speakers for the IMG Seminar are:

  • Camilo Vélez (Dr. Arnold's group) on Integrating microfabricated magnetic materials in 5G telecommunication systems
  • Cary Kuliasha (Dr. Judy's group)

Integrating microfabricated magnetic materials in 5G telecommunication systems.  The microfabrication of ferrite structures on semiconductor substrates for mm-wave applications is an imminent necessity to the development of components in the 5th generation of telecommunication systems (5G). A team from IMG is conducting research in this area under the DARPA/MTO program called: Magnetic Miniaturized and Monolithically Integrated Components (M3IC). We have implemented fabrication and characterization techniques that required our group’s combined know-how on MEMS, microfabrication, magnetics, nanoparticles, transmission lines and RF. During this seminar we will present techniques to pattern >100 µm thick barium hexaferrite (BaFe12O19) films on semiconductor substrates, revealing material’s peak signal absorption associated with ferromagnetic resonances at 45.9 GHz.

Dr. Tabrizian Receives the ECE Excellence Award for Teaching

On April 8th, the IMG Faculty Member and ECE Assistant Professor, Roozbeh Tabrizian, received the ECE Excellence Award for Teaching. The Electrical and Computer Engineering College awards one faculty award per year in each of three categories: Research, Teaching and Service. We would like to congratulate Dr. Tabrizian on this accomplishment!

IMG Seminar: Dr. Y.K. Yoon

Event date:
Fri, 04/06/2018 - 11:45am to 12:45pm

This week, the speaker for the IMG Seminar is Dr. Yong-Kyu Yoon on "Put the IoT where the Mouth is" - Smart Mouthguard and its Prospects.

Wearable IoT devices are getting elevated attentions in this connected world. A smart mouthguard - one of the first IoT wearables in the oral space, is presented as a future smart health platform. The evolution and specifications of some smart mouthguards developed in the lab are showcased. Its prospects and future directions are discussed with audience. Also, some impressions Dr. Yoon got from Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2018 will be shared.
