The professors of IMG pool resources to get the most out of the equipment. Instead of each professor buying a low-end tool of every kind which sits unused for most of the time, the labs can buy higher end machinery and share between the labs. Additionally, all the professors' students sit in a shared space, which enhances collaboration between all members. Many of the professors who specialize in certain areas also maintain smaller labs with more specialized equipment. Below are some maps of the two buildings where IMG is located.
In addition to these two floors, IMG students also have access to a cleanroom facility and many additional characterization labs at the Research Services Center (formerly Nanoscale Research Center). These facilities are maintained by dedicated researchers and staff who are extremely willing to help students out with projects.
