IMG research focuses on micro- and nanosystems for healthcare, energy, security, aerospace, transportation, consumer electronics, and other industries. Efforts include design, fabrication, characterization, and ultimately deployment of micro and nanotechnologies for a wide variety of applications. IMG is playing a leading role in the MIST Center (Multi-functional integrated system technology), an NSF I/UCRC program.

Undergraduate Rodney Dagulo has been selected as one of 22 students for a 10 week internship with the Fluid System Technologies division at the Kennedy Space Center (more info). Congratulations Rodney!
Vinod John was awarded 2nd place for his poster on the “Comparison of Laser and Spark Based Acoustic Shock Sources for MEMS Diaphragm Characterization" at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Research Symposium. Congratulations to Vinod!
Last week the National Science Foundation announced that two senior undergraduate members of IMG, Cesar Moreno and Jessica Sockwell, won Graduate Research Fellowships. As winners of this prestigious award, both students will receive funds for graduate study worth $44,550/yr for three years. Cesar and Jessica will begin graduate study at IMG in the fall under Drs. Lou Cattafesta and Mark Sheplak, respectively.
Yawei Li will be defending her dissertation, "Side-Implanted Piezoresistive Shear Stress Sensor for Turbulent Boundary Layer Measurement" at 11:30am, Monday 4/14/08 in Larsen 234. All are invited to attend and refreshments will be served.

The AIAA Sensor Systems Technical Committee (SENTC) awarded Yawei Li et al. with the 2008 SENTC Student Paper Award for her presentation and paper titled "A MEMS Shear Stress Sensor for Turbulence Measurements" (Paper No. AIAA-2008-269-930). The award designates the paper as the best among all SENTC student papers during the 46th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, Reno, NV, January 2008. Congratulations to Yawei and co-authors on the award and impressive work!
Qi (Terry) Song will be defending his PhD dissertation, "Closed-Loop Control of Flow-Induced Cavity Oscillations" on Thursday, March 27 at 9:00am in MAE-A 221. All are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.
Philip Cunio, an IMG alumnus, is now a student in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT. He and another MIT student are living inside a Mars simulator in Utah to try to understand the technological and psychological issues that a crew on Mars will someday face.
