UF Team Wins 2nd Place at Global Youth Innovation Festival 2015

The UF Smart Mouthguard team won 2nd place in the International Contest of Global Youth Innovation Festival 2015.

The Global Youth Innovation Festival is an international competition for college students to promote the innovative spirits of youth, to construct collaboration platforms, and to increase applications. More than 120 teams participated in the contest and 12 finalist teams from 6 countries were invited to the finals held in Beijing, CN, October 25, 2015. The UF team represented the USA and won 2nd place out of the 12 finalist teams.

Arian Rahimi Awarded IEEE Annual AP-S Doctoral Research Fellowship

Arian Rahimi, current IMG members, have been received the 2015 IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society (AP-S) Doctoral Research Award. The IEEE AP-S awards up to 10 PhD fellowships each year to encourage students to pursue a career in the area of Electromagnetics. The awards are intended to support students involved in project work directed by a faculty member at their institution who is a member of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society. The title of his research is: "High Performance Conductor Architectures for Future Communication Systems" under supervision of Dr. Y.K. Yoon.

The award selection is based on creativity and quality of the proposed project, discussion of the technical interests and skills of the student. 

UF Team Wins 2nd Place at iCAN 2015 International Micro/Nanotechnology Competition

The UF Smart Mouthguard team won 2nd place in the International Contest of Applications in Nano/Micro Technologies (iCAN 2015).

iCAN is an international competition for college students, to promote the innovative spirits of youth, to construct collaboration platforms, and to increase applications of nano-micro technology. More than 15,000 students participated in the contest and 19 finalist teams from 12 countries were invited to the finals held in Anchorage, AK, June 20 - 22, 2015. The UF team represented the USA and won 2nd place out of the 19 finalist teams.

IMG Faculty Help Launch the NSF MIST Center

The NSF Multi-functional Integrated System Technology Center (MIST Center) held it’s Kickoff Meeting on Dec. 11-12, 2014. Led by IMG faculty Dr. Nishida and Dr. Arnold, and in partnership with UCF, the mission of the MIST Center is to facilitate integration of novel materials, processes, devices, and circuits into multi-functional systems through research partnerships between university, industry, and government stakeholders. With inaugural membership from eight organizations, the MIST Center selected 8 projects (6 at UF and 2 at UCF) to be conducted during 2015. The UF projects are:

  • Directed Nanoparticle Assembly by Electrophoretic Deposition (PI: Dr. Arnold)
  • Laser Micromachining of 3-D Miniature Parts in Hard Materials (PI: Dr. Sheplak)
  • Technology Development for Harsh Environment Microsensors (PI: Dr. Sheplak)
  • High-Performance CoPt Micromagnets (PI: Dr. Arnold)
  • Compact Array Antennas with High Gain, Power Efficiency, and EMI Immunity in a System-in-Package Platform (PI: Dr. Yoon)
  • Ferroelectric HfO2 for Energy Storage and Non-volatile Memory Applications (PI: Dr. Nishida)
