Congratulations to IMG Members Meisam Habibi Matin and Adam Kriz, and Dr. Saeed Moghaddam on their recent journal publication in Applied Thermal Engineering! Titled “Annular liquid film thermohydraulic and intermittent dryout in microchannel flow boiling,” this work fully resolves the intermittent dryout process in annular liquid film flow and uses interfacial shear stress to predict flow regime transition. We were so honored to have Dr. Evelyn L. Hu from Harvard University as the inaugural speaker for our Distinguished Seminar Series! Dr. Hu presented two talks: “Composing a Life”, a career retrospective, and “Rediscovering Semiconductor Materials: A Focus on Imperfections”, a technical talk. Our IMG faculty and students were so thrilled to meet Dr. Hu, hear her life stories, and learn about her research. Thank you for a wonderful two days, Dr. Hu!

This week, IMG hosted our Annual Kick-Off Meeting with a “State of IMG” address, pizza, and awards. We wish everyone a successful academic year ahead! Go Gators!

David Arnold, Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs. Dr. Arnold will assist the chair with T&P/faculty development, space allocations, recruiting, faculty honorifics, and more.

Philip Feng, Associate Chair for Research. Dr. Feng will implement junior faculty mentoring program and establish strategic research initiatives.

Congratulations to Dr. Z. Hugh Fan for being selected as the new director of IMG!

Special thanks to Dr. Mark Sheplak for serving in this role the last two years. We look forward to the future of IMG under Dr. Fan’s leadership.

IMG had its annual kickoff meeting through Zoom this year! We are proud of our numerous students and faculty members for their commitment to research during this time. May this coming year lead to good research progress and a strong community!

IMG professor Dr. David P. Arnold is a co-PI and the UF site director for a $26 million NSF grant focused on developing new technologies and systems for smart agriculture. The research funded by this grant will ultimately help U.S. farmers to stay competitive on the world stage!

IMG has donated over 8000 nitrile gloves (8 cases) to UF Health to put towards the Coronavirus fight. We’re all in this together!

IMG welcomes its newest faculty member—Dr. Jennifer Andrew from the UF Department of Materials Science and Engineering! Dr. Andrew and her group have collaborated with IMG on various projects since she joined the UF faculty in 2011, and her research interests include developing functional nano materials for biomedical and electronic applications. As such, she’s a natural fit!

New IMG Professor Philip Feng presented in the ECE Seminar Series this week with a talk about his research titled, “Emerging Semiconductor Nanoscale Devices and Systems: From Fundamentals to Applications”. It was great to see him share his field of work with all the students in the UF ECE Department!
