Microfluidics-Enabled Immunoassay Array for Multianalyte Detection

The goal of this project is to develop thermally actuated and manufactuable microfluidic valves for a variety of applications. The valves can be integrated in a device; the actuation of valves will be controlled by a printed circuit board (PCB). The valves are expected to be useful in any system that needs flow controls and fluid metering. The project has been funded by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and a project for an immunoassay array involving a number of microvalves is currently funded by National Institute of Health (NIH).  More info can be found in this link: http://www2.mae.ufl.edu/%7Ehfan/Research.html

Cheolbok Kim Receives IEEE AP-S Doctoral Research Award

Congratulations to Cheolbok Kim on receiving the 2013 IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society (AP-S) Doctoral Research Award! The IEEE AP-S awards up to ten PhD fellowships each year to encourage students to pursue a career in the area of Antenna and Electromagnetics. The awards are intended to support students involved in project work directed by a faculty member at their institution who is a member of the IEEE AP-S. The title of his research is: "Low Loss and High Gain Terahertz Antenna Systems Using Micromachined Air-lifted 3D Structures and Metamaterials" The award selection is based on creativity and quality of the proposed project, discussion of the technical interests and skills of the student as well as the recommendation letter.

Proposal Defense - Dylan Alexander

Dylan Alexander will defend his dissertation proposal, entitled "Design, reliability-based optimization, and fabrication of a piezoresistive microelectromechanical microphone with back-side contacts for aeroacoustic measurements" at 8:30am on Thursday, April 18th in LAR 234. Refreshments will be provided. 

Per Export Administration Regulations, which apply to the content of the proposal defense (ECCN 9E991), no persons from a designated "terrorist supporting country" is permitted to attend. This includes citizens of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
