Congratulations to IMG member Minh-Chau Le on being awarded the UF Health Cancer Center (UFHCC) Predoctoral Award! The annual UFHCC Predoctoral Awards are intended to recognize and support outstanding predoctoral candidates who are conducting innovative cancer research. Under Dr. Hugh Fan’s mentorship, Minh-Chau is conducting her dissertation work titled: “Microfluidic Platforms for the Detection of Rare Cells in Sarcomas and Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.” 

Congratulations to Madison Chubb for MAE IDEA Undergraduate Research Fellowship!

Congratulations to IMG undergraduate Madison Chubb for being awarded the MAE IDEA Undergraduate Research Fellowship! This fellowship recognizes and encourages the academic achievement of students from underrepresented groups who aspire to pursue research careers. Under Dr. Hugh Fan’s mentorship, Madison Chubb will be conducting her work on engineering microfluidic devices for tumor cell isolation to study cancerous cells in the blood samples of patients. Congratulations to Morteza Alipanahrostami and Minh-Chau Le for representing Dr. Hugh Fan’s Lab at the 2022 ASME IMECE conference in Columbus, Ohio (Oct. 30-Nov. 3)! Morteza presented his paper titled: “Integration of Minivalves with RNA Amplification Device for Simultaneous Detection of SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza Viruses”. Minh-Chau presented her paper on “Microfluidic Devices for Isolating and Releasing Disseminated Tumor Cells in Bone Marrow.” Go Gators!

IMG Professor Dr. Hugh Fan is Elected as a Fellow of AIMBE

The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the election of Z. Hugh Fan, Ph.D., Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, to its College of Fellows. Dr. Fan was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for significant contributions to the field of microfluidics, particularly in device development and biomedical applications.
