Multidisciplinary Nano and Microsystems Lab

Congratulations to Sunghyun Hwang and Professor Yoon on their IEEE Photonics Technology Letters publication!

Congratulations to IMG Member Sunghyun Hwang and IMG Professor Yong-Kyu Yoon, on their recent publication in the journal IEEE Photonics Technology Letters! In this work, titled, “Silicon Phononic Nanowires Enable Ultra-Low Thermal Conductivity Measured by Raman Spectroscopy”, a novel device structure and precise measurement technique were introduced to assess the thermal conductivity of PnC-supported Si MEMS pixels using vacuum-based Raman spectroscopy.

Congratulations to Sunghyun Hwang on IEEE Transactions on CPMT Publication!

Congratulations to Sunghyun Hwang (Dr. Yoon’s Group) on his recent journal publication in IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology! This work, “Metal assisted chemical etching toward scallop-free-sidewall through silicon vias: A Review”, discusses current TSV (Through-Silicon Via) fabrication technologies and recent advancements in the MACE (Metal-Assisted Chemical Etching) based fabrication process.

Orlando-bound! Dr. Yoon's group to present 7 papers at ECTC

Congratulations to Dr. Yoon's group for having seven papers accepted to the Electronic Components and Technology Conference (ECTC) happening in Orlando from May 30-June 2! The first authors of these papers are IMG Members Hanna Jang, Saeyeong Jeon, Ziqi Jia, Payman Pahlavan, Hae-In Kim, Sunghyun Hwang, and Alexander Wilcher. Best of luck to everyone presenting at the conference, and thank you for representing IMG so well!

Congratulations to Woosol Lee on ECE Research Excellence Award!

IMG Member Woosol Lee was awarded the 2023 ECE Research Excellence Award! This award is given annually to the top ECE graduate student who has excelled in their research throughout the academic year. It was announced on Monday, April 24th, at the IEEE/HKN/WECE Awards Banquet. Congratulations, Woosol!

Women's History Month: Hae-In Kim

To celebrate Women’s History Month, we want to highlight the very talented female members of IMG, starting with Hae-In Kim! Originally from South Korea, Hae-In joined IMG back in 2018 and was motivated by her interest in radio frequency (RF) devices to pursue her PhD. Her research focuses on investigating the use of metaconductors to minimize conductor loss in certain RF devices. On top of her scientific work, Hae-In also has a passion for promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM through her involvement with IEEE Women in Engineering.

Shayla Breedlove wins 2022 Optica Amplify Black Scholars Award

IMG member Shayla Breedlove, a PhD student in the Multidisciplinary Nano and Microsystems (MNM) Lab, becomes one of 15 members of the inaugural class of OpticaWorldwide Amplify Scholars, which supports Black students and their passion for light science.

Shayla is supervised by Dr. Zmuda and Dr. Yoon. Congrats!

Woosol Lee Awarded 2022 IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) Graduate Fellowship Award

Congratulations to IMG member Woosol Lee who has received  the 2022 IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) Graduate Fellowship Award for the project titled “Highly efficient mmWave based far-field wireless power transfer system using metaconductors and metamaterials.” This is a very prestigious award given to only 12 students in the world each year in the IEEE MTT society.
