Abstract

A 2-D, 20% thick, elliptical circulation control airfoil with both steady and unsteady trailing-edge upper-slot blowing is investigated in the University of Florida Aeroacoustic Flow Facility. Unsteady blowing is achieved via a 64-element phased array of miniature solenoid valves with variable frequency and duty cycle. Preliminary tests focus on exploring the effects of the unsteady blowing on lift and noise generation relative to steady blowing. The results of steady, in-phase, and various phased cases are described at a chord Reynolds number of Rec = 650K . The experimental results demonstrate that unsteady circulation control with phase shifts of 45
