At the 68th International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) taking place in San Francisco this week, UF ECE and IMG Ph.D. students Tahmid Kaisar and Enamul Yousuf, Prof. Philip Feng, report on the demonstration of multiple low-noise, self-sustained feedback oscillators referenced to a single multimode resonator, using piezoelectric aluminum nitride on silicon (AlN/Si) microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. These multimode oscillators’ excellent performance suggests suitability for either timing or multimode resonant sensing and tracking applications. This work is in collaboration with JPL and Brookhaven National Lab.
